NASA’s Roman Space Telescope Successfully Launches Aboard SpaceX Falcon Heavy

 NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has successfully launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The launch took place on August 30, 2026, at 7:26 a.m. EDT. NASA confirmed that the spacecraft later separated from the Falcon Heavy’s second stage and began its journey toward its planned orbit around the second Sun-Earth Lagrange point, about one million miles from Earth.

The Roman Space Telescope is designed to study some of the biggest questions in astronomy, including dark energy and dark matter. It will also help scientists search for and study planets beyond our solar system and map large areas of the universe.

NASA says the spacecraft will spend roughly three months traveling toward its destination while teams complete deployment, testing and commissioning activities. Once operational, Roman is expected to provide scientists with a wide view of the universe and large amounts of astronomical data.
