Cowboys vs Giants: New York Giants Win 28-20 in 2026 NFL Season Opener

The New York Giants opened their 2026 NFL season with an impressive 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night.

The Cowboys struggled to find their rhythm early in the game, while the Giants built momentum with a balanced offensive performance. The result gave New York a 1-0 start, while Dallas began the season 0-1.

Giants Take Control Early

New York opened the scoring in the first quarter when Cam Skattebo scored on a 3-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Giants a 7-0 lead.

Dallas answered in the second quarter. Dak Prescott connected with CeeDee Lamb for a 1-yard touchdown, bringing the game level at 7-7.

The Giants responded just before halftime. Quarterback Jaxson Dart found tight end Isaiah Likely for a 15-yard touchdown, putting New York ahead 14-7 at the break.

New York Extends Its Lead

The Giants continued their strong offensive performance after halftime. Dart connected with Likely again for a 2-yard touchdown in the third quarter, extending the lead to 21-7.

Dallas responded with a touchdown of its own. Javonte Williams scored on a 1-yard rushing play, cutting the Giants' advantage to 21-14.

New York then produced another important scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Dart found Devin Singletary for a 9-yard touchdown after a 65-yard drive, putting the Giants back in control at 28-14.

Dallas scored again late in the game when Prescott threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Williams. However, the Cowboys missed the extra point, leaving the final score at 28-20.

Jaxson Dart Leads the Giants

Dart was one of the biggest stories of the night. The Giants quarterback completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

Isaiah Likely also played a major role, finishing with eight receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

For Dallas, Prescott completed 22 of 34 passes for 175 yards, with two touchdown passes and one interception. CeeDee Lamb finished with five receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.

What the Result Means

The victory gives the Giants an early advantage in the NFC East standings at 1-0. The Cowboys, meanwhile, will have to respond quickly after starting the season with a division loss.

The season is still long, but Sunday's result gives New York plenty of confidence heading into its next game. Dallas will also have an opportunity to correct its mistakes and try to get back into the win column.
