Milo Yiannopoulos Detained by ICE in New Orleans:British Commentator Faces Deportation Afer Visa Overstav



Washington, Aug 29, 2026 British far-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed on Friday.


Yiannopoulos, 41, who was once a prominent figure in American conservative media, was arrested on Thursday and is currently in ICE custody pending removal to the United Kingdom. According to DHS, he is subject to a final order of removal.


Visa Overstay Since 2019


According to official records, Milo Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States in May 2019 through New York City. DHS stated that he "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation's laws.


In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), DHS said: "Yiannopoulos was issued a final order of removal by an Immigration Judge on July 22, after failing to show up for his immigration hearing. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal."


He was not immediately available for comment, and it is unclear if he has legal representation.


The Irony That Sparked Social Media Storm


The detention has triggered a massive reaction online, with over 100,000 searches in the last 24 hours in the USA, because of its deep irony.


Yiannopoulos himself has been a vocal advocate for strict immigration enforcement. In recent years, he publicly called for supermarket ICE checkpoints and the summary deportation of anyone failing to prove legal U.S. residency.


Now, the same agency he supported has detained him for the exact violation he campaigned against.


Who is Milo Yiannopoulos?


Milo Yiannopoulos is a British political commentator who rose to prominence in the US as a senior editor at Breitbart News, the conservative outlet once run by Steve Bannon. The Cambridge-educated writer became known for his provocative "Dangerous Faggot" college campus tour, which aimed to promote free speech but drew massive protests.


In 2017, his career suffered a major setback after videos surfaced where he made controversial comments about pedophilia, leading to his resignation from Breitbart and bans from major social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.


Once an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, Yiannopoulos later became a vocal critic of the administration. He accused Trump of having "sacrificed his honour" and claimed "Trumpism died" over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. He also claimed Trump was "bought, paid for, owned and operated" by Israel in an interview with Candace Owens.


ICE Crackdown Continues


His arrest comes amid a broader crackdown by the Trump administration on visa overstays. DHS has stated it is prioritizing removal of individuals who have violated immigration laws, regardless of their public profile.


Immigration experts say that a final order of removal means that an immigration judge has already determined that the individual has no legal basis to remain in the United States. Failing to appear for a hearing often results in an in-absentia removal order.


What Happens Next?


Yiannopoulos will remain in an ICE detention facility until his deportation flight to the United Kingdom is arranged. The process can take days to weeks depending on travel documents and logistics.


DHS has not released his exact detention location for security reasons, but his name appears in the online detainee locator system as of Friday afternoon.


This case highlights that U.S. immigration law applies to everyone, regardless of political ideology or past support for the administration.
