Mansoor Delane Injury Update: Chiefs Rookie Leaves Debut After Interception

 



Rookie Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Mansoor Delane made an immediate impact in his NFL debut against the Denver Broncos. But a shoulder injury cost him his stellar start.

Delane, the Chiefs’ first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, snagged his first interception of his pro career early in the game. He helped Kansas City get an early chance to score when he picked off Broncos quarterback Bo Nix on the third scrimmage play. 

But on the return trip Delane put his right shoulder to the ground. He left the field soon after with a shoulder injury, and was initially listed as questionable to return. The Chiefs later downgraded him to out for the game.

The injury is significant in that Delane had already battled a shoulder issue in the offseason. The rookie had some limitations in training camp, missed some time in offseason workouts before eventually returning to full participation. “

Kansas City was high on Delane after selecting him sixth overall, so the Chiefs’ early loss was significant.

The Chiefs have not yet disclosed a long-term schedule for Delane's return. As the team gets ready for its next game, more details should become available. His condition will probably be observed throughout the week.

His first NFL series revealed why the Chiefs were excited about his potential even with the injury. Delane showed immediately he can make a big play against an NFL quarterback, picking off Nix on his first opportunity.
